indexes also fell, making for a weak start to a week shortened by the
Labor Day holiday on Monday. The Standard & Poor's 500 index lost

for every one that rose on the New York Stock Exchange, where
consolidated volume was very light at 3.2 billion shares.

Volume

market even when they get back because of uncertainty about the global
economy.

Oil

It has dropped a lot for the past few days and looks like $70 is a resistance level. Any idea whether it will break it or swing back up? Thoughts?

Cobra's Market View

INTERMEDIATE-TERM: INITIAL PULLBACK TARGET MET BUT COULD BE MORE

No update, see 02/05/2010 Market Recap, Fib 38.2% retracement target was met, but I suspect there’s more. There’s a chance that after the pullback is over, we’ll see a new high followed by a bigger pullback thereafter.

SHORT-TERM: MARKET MAY VERY CLOSE TO AT LEAST A SHORT-TERM BOTTOM

See table above, two additional bullish signals were added, therefore chances are increasing significantly that the market may very close to at least a short-term bottom. But still there’re 2 concerns. Firstly, 6.3.0 Major Accumulation/Distribution Days, the Major Distribution Day seldom comes alone, in another word is that there could be another big sell off ahead. Secondly, 6.4.A SPY Bottom Shape, see chart below, comparing to the past bottom shape, do you think the current shape look like a bottom? So the conclusion is, a bottom (could be either short-term or intermediate-term) should be very close but the market may test 02/05 low first. Of course, the market could keep rising from here, if so, because the low is not tested, it’s not easy for the market to stand only on one foot, therefore it cannot go too far, eventually will have to come down at least to test the 02/05 low. If this is the case, then for sure, the 02/05 low is only a short-term bottom.

The three bullish signs mentioned above are listed below.

6.3.2c Major Distribution Day Watch, NYDNV:NYUPV > 35, usually a bottom is very close.

SHORT-TERM: FALL ON DECREASED VOLUME USUALLY IS NOT A SIGN OF BOTTOM

Nothing to say, but since now the report contains more and more data in the table above (I hope you like the idea) and the stock screener (which, I guess, you’re unsatisfied. Don’t worry, my screener for longs should be very good. For shorts, actually, I think bearish ETF is much better.), so I have to find something to say everyday. And here comes what I made up today: 0.0.2 SPY Short-term Trading Signals, fell on decreased volume plus not many oversold signals, so I tend to believe the market is not bottomed yet.

If the market is not bottomed, then beware of the next prophecy: 6.3.0 Major Accumulation/Distribution Days, Major Distribution Day seldom comes alone, this means there’ll be at least one panic sell to new low ahead, unless a Major Accumulation Day steps in first.

STOCK SCREENER: For fun only, I may not actually trade the screeners.
Well, no bullish Monday. But at least after the last bearish Monday, the rest of the week wasn’t bad. And it’s true, it’s very rate for INDU to have red weeks 4 weeks in a row, and it’s the 5th week now, so suppose we should have an intra-week reversal and eventually have a green week?

Just still want to remind you the chart below, a little bit old but should enough to see that the rest of the week after the Monday wasn’t so promising in the past.

I have no idea what’s going to happen next. Past experience says a scary sell off for at least two more days to wash all the weak hands out then a few weeks rebound thereafter. Anyone wants to say that because so many people are expecting panic sell, so there’ll be no panic sell?

My
belief is that we are in the last of a series of bubbles, with this
current bubble being a government debt bubble, and that this bubble will
end in a bond crisis centered on US treasuries that will raise interest
rates, enforce austerity, and cripple both the US (and other)
governments' ability to borrow irresponsibly, and as importantly to
print money to boost the economy and finance their deficits. Minor
issues like Greece notwithstanding, I don't see any sign at all of that
crisis in the near future.
We are therefore currently in a mainly technical market, where longer
term economic fundamentals mean little in assessing short term
valuations, and while that is the case then we may go up further before
gravity catches up with us. Meanwhile we're living through a very
strange period in economic terms.
My theory, which I'm hoping to make the central theme of a book on this
secular bear that I'm thinking of writing after it has all played out,
is that we are in a three stage debt bubble as follows:
The start of the series of bubbles, loosely speaking, was in 1995 when
the SPX broke the long term rising resistance trendline dating back to
1937 that had been hit previously at the major highs in 1966 and 1987,
and that SPX had bumped along just underneath in 1993 - 1995. It was in
1996 of course that Greenspan famously referred to 'irrational
exuberance' in the stock markets, and no doubt he was referring to this
initial break above the long term trend. Just as famously he then did
nothing to stop that bubble inflating, and we have been riding the waves
ever since.
That first bubble was the corporate debt bubble, culminating in the peak
in 2000. As that bubble deflated, central banks responded with low
interest rates and a flood of liquidity and inflated the second bubble
in the series.
The second bubble, 2003 - 2007 was the personal debt bubble. After the
peak in October 2007, and the brutal bear market that followed, central
banks responded once again with low interest rates and a flood of
liquidity.
The third and final bubble, starting 2009 and end date to be advised in due course, is the government debt bubble.
1995 - 2000 Corporate debt bubble
2003 - 2007 Personal debt bubble
2009 - 2012 (?) Government debt bubble
To put this into the longer term historical context I have borrowed and
annotated a chart from Atilla to show the long term SPX rising channel
and to illustrate how far we moved away from the longer term trend
during the first bubble particularly. You'll note that is is a rising
channel going back to the 30s with a short break below in WWII and the
major break above from 1995.

昨天 18:54

I don't see us making a final low until after the end of the final
bubble and we're just not there yet. This last bubble is necessarily the
last bubble in the series as after it ends there will be no-one left
able to inflate another. I'm expecting a US sovereign debt crisis and
bond market revolt in a year or two that forces austerity, ends the last
bubble, and starts the final cyclical bear market of this secular bear
cycle. After that bond market crisis, then governments will no longer
have the option of lowering interest rates or of releasing a flood of
liquidity into the economy, and that final cyclical bear market will
therefore take place without any major keynesian interventions.
What matters to us though is what will happen in the interim, and I have a theory for that as well.
As I said in my post on 21st May, I'm expecting a low on the bear
scenario this year in the 870 area, as that is the target area for both
the broadening formation and the big head and the shoulders pattern on
SPX, as well as being the key support / resistance level in the October
2008 to July 2009 period. There is another pattern that I should point
out too (thanks to BloodWine for bringing it to my attention), and that
is the possible bearish gartley pattern that may be developing after the
April peak on SPX hit an almost perfect 61.8% fibonacci retracement of
the fall between October 2007 and March 2009. A perfect 61.8%
retracement would have hit 1228 and SPX hit 1220 which was very close. A
bearish gartley pattern retracement of the rise into April 2010 would
target a (61.8% to 78.6%) range between 878 to 785 SPX and that would
give us the first three legs of the pattern. If we hit 878 exactly, then
the fourth leg would target a range between 1312 and 1431, and if we
hit 785 exactly then the fourth leg would target a range between 1337
and 1488. The completed pattern would then look like this:

下载 (129.58 KB)

昨天 18:54

Does that sound too incredible? Perhaps, but it seems generally accepted
that if the stock market goes below 900 then the US government will
respond with a massive new round of stimulus and printing money, and
Greenspan's comments show the thinking behind that. That worked last
time, for a while, and I think that it may well work again, for a
while. Equally it seems clear that the Fed will persist with this
strategy until it can no longer do so, which brings us back to that bond
market crisis I'm expecting.
I'm no expert with EW but that would also complete an ABC correction
from the March 2009 low, and to my eye, the wave up from March 2009 was a
five wave sequence, with the third wave ending in January 2010. Though I
know that is debatable, one five wave impulsive wave sequence strongly
implies at least one more impulsive wave up, according to EW rules.
So what else do I have to suggest that after a steep fall over the next
few months, we would then have a steep recovery? Well, there is the
first chart of course, where the scenario I am describing would complete
a retest of the rebroken upper trendline of the rising channel, and
then there's this 50 year chart of the SPX adjusted for CPI that I came
across a few months ago. I've added the arrows to show the perfect steep
real terms reversion to mean declining channel over the course of the
secular bear market since 2000, and once again the completion target for
the bearish gartley pattern would take us into the right area to hit
the upper trendline of this real terms SPX declining channel:

下载 (47.57 KB)

昨天 18:54

So there it is, a logical theory backed up with some nice charts. Will it happen? Only time will tell. :-)
I'll leave you with a couple of final thoughts. The first is that in
recent days we have seen at least one, and possibly as many as three
Hindenburg Omens. Now these may or may not be greatly significant in
terms of an imminent fall, and as much as anything else I think that
these omens are alerting us to something many may have missed, which is
that the market has barely moved in the last year. It will be the 23rd
of August on Monday, and on Monday 24th August last year the SPX HOD was
1035.82. SPX closed just 36 points higher than that on Friday.
Why's that significant? Because the omen requires that a significant
number of new 52 week highs and lows must be made for an omen to
trigger, and for that reason I remarked to someone a year ago that we
couldn't realistically see one for quite a while because of the huge
range over the previous 52 weeks. The range now over the last 52 weeks
is some 200 points, rather than the 700 or so points a year ago, so the
range is now narrow enough for Hindenburg Omens to trigger. To that
extent the omens are just reminding us that the range over the last 52
weeks is narrow, and that we have come significantly off the top.
The second is a very thought-provoking recent chart from Goldman Sachs
reposted by Clusterstock Chart of the Day last week. It is the GS
analysis of the impact of fiscal stimulus on US GDP growth from the
beginning of 2009 to the end of 2011. This doesn't tell us that we could
necessarily make the upside target on the gartley pattern with a
massive new stimulus, but it does suggest that without that stimulus,
earnings forecasts over the next year look wildly overoptimistic.

The Dow fell 21 points to 10653.

Friday was a wild and crazy day. Stocks plunged after a disappointing jobs report, then nearly recovered all of their losses.

Better-than-expected corporate earnings helped boost the Dow 7% in July,
which was the best month for stocks in a year. But the cloudy outlook
for the U.S. economy has weighed on the market so far in August, which
is historically a bad month for Wall Street.

Friday's jobs report raised speculation that the government may take
additional steps to shore up the recovery as previous economic stimulus
measures fade.

Next Week:
The Fed will decide whether another round of stimulus is in order. Cisco
Systems, Macy's, Disney and JC Penney will report quarterly results.

More bearish VIX bets

50k
VIX Sep $45 calls, 24k VXX Aug $22 calls. Big players are positioning
for tomorrow's weekly claim and Friday's NFP. WSJ money flows also
turned to red despite S&P closed in green.
I think you may want to take some profits or buy some puts to hedge
your long positions ahead of Friday's NFP. S&P has been up 11% from
the low of 1010. A good NFP report may not push this market much
higher, but a bad report could certainly derail this rally.
The latest monthly data from the AAII shows that bonds and cash are
still the asset of choice for small investors. The allocation in
equities remains very low historically (via AAII):

Individual investors allocated 51.7% of their portfolios
to stocks and stock funds last month, a 1.2 percentage point drop from
June. The historical average is 60%.

Bonds and bond funds accounted for 24% of individual investors’
portfolios. This was a 2.4 percentage point increase from June. This
historical average is 15%.

Cash accounted for 24.3% of portfolios, a 1.3 percentage point drop from June. The historical average is 25%.

Equity allocations have been below the historical average for most
of 2010 and the July results show that this trend is continuing. Market
volatility and economic uncertainty are causing individual investors to
stay defensive. Many are focused on income generation, either through
dividend-paying stocks or bonds.
This is a brand new month today. The market was on fire!

The Dow jumps 208 points; the S&P 500 and Nasdaq are ahead in 2010
for the first time since June. Economic reports from China, Europe and
the US are better than expected. Oil tops $81.
Looking ahead, investors said the focus may shift later this week from
earnings to the economy, particularly the outlook for the U.S. job

(SPY, GLD)

Is The Market Topping Again? (SPY, GLD)
July 29th, 2010

Here at TMTF, I enjoy making controversial calls based on Human
Behavioral topping and bottoming patterns, often referred to as Elliott
Wave Theory. This is a difficult pattern recognition model to follow
as there can be numerous interpretations. Instead, I look for
additional clues like sentiment indicators, a few traditional technical
indicators, headlines in the news and covers of papers etc. Recently I
saw an article on Bloomberg indicating that short positions were at two
year lows, with the ratio of longs to shorts at 2 year highs. Those
types of indicators I use to help confirm if I’m on the right or wrong
track with a forecast.

Right now I think the S&P 500 (Investors can use the SPDR S&P
500 ETF (NYSE:SPY)) and markets are topping in a counter-trend
ABC-X-ABC rally that really started with the May 25th lows of 1040, to
the June 21st highs of 1130, back to the Jul 1 lows of 1011, and now to
1121 so far the highs. That 1121 number is a Fibonacci 50%
re-tracement of the 2007 to 2009 highs to lows, and just 9 points below
a 61% re-tracement upwards of the April highs to July 1st
lows. Evidence mounts now that August could prove tough for Bulls and
some risk aversion here is a good trade in my opinion.

Back in late June I saw similar sentiment and Elliott Wave topping
patterns in Gold (Investors can use the SPDR Gold ETF (NYSE:GLD)) as
well. The headlines were bullish, the talking heads on CNBC were all
saying to buy any dip in gold and stay long. A 21 month rally was
topping and I went ahead and stuck my neck out and predicted a multi
month correction. Since then Gold has dropped from $1243 to $1158 at
it’s recent low, and should be heading to $1043 eventually if I’m
right. It takes awhile to knock the sentiment down from overly
optimistic levels, just like with the S&P 500 top in April which I
forecasted in mid April as well.

The S&P 500 would need to clear 1130 aggressively for me to cave in
and call 1011 the bottom. That was a 38% fibonacci re-tracement of the
13 month market rally, and it’s possible that was the bottom for
sure. Normally though, you would at least get a re-test of that low,
and possibly a drop to 942 area on the S&P 500 which is a 50%
fibonacci re-tracement of the 13 month rally. In addition, the
pullback so far only lasted about 8 weeks relative to 13 months of
rally, so I think there is another several weeks yet before we can call
a bottom in 2010.

Below is an interesting chart showing recent action since late May in
the S&P 500 index. Investor’s like to act in patterns and this
seems to show a good one. Best to you and your trading!
as earnings and economic reports reassured investors that the recovery,
while uncertain, is continuing.

The Dow Jones industrial average
rose 201 points after second-quarter earnings from Caterpillar Inc., UPS
Inc. and other companies beat analysts' forecasts. A better than
expected report on housing and encouraging signs of growth in Europe
added to the upbeat mood.

But investors might be ready to sell
again when trading resumes Friday. After the close of regular trading,
Amazon.com Inc. issued a report that fell short of expectations. Its
stock fell almost 14 percent in after-hours trading. If the market gives
back gains Friday, it would follow its pattern of falling on
disappointments in what so far has been a mixed earnings season.

Microsoft Corp. also released earnings after the close of trading and beat analyst estimates. Its stock fell slightly.

Investors
had plenty of reasons to buy on Thursday. Caterpillar said its orders
are growing and production will pick up in the second half of the year.
UPS raised its outlook because of spending by businesses. Caterpillar's
stock rose 1.7 percent, while UPS gained 5.2 percent.

Chris
Hobart, founder of Hobart Financial Group in Charlotte, N.C., said the
outlooks are especially important because, if companies expect to grow,
they'll need to hire again.

If improved forecasts lead to jobs
growth, "then this can be better than a good quarter or good second
half, (it can mean) we've got a good economy," Hobart said.

A
report on the housing market, while still showing a slowdown, was
reassuring because it wasn't as bad as investors expected. The National

He also said record low interest

disappointed investors and a survey showed that consumers are becoming
more pessimistic.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell more than
190 points, and other major market indexes were also down more than 1
percent. Interest rates fell in the Treasury market as investors once
again sought out the safety of government securities.

The market
fell at the opening after Citigroup Inc. and Bank of America Corp.
released earnings. The two banks, like JPMorgan Chase & Co. a day
earlier, reported higher earnings as losses from failed loans fell. But
they are also seeing lower trading revenues because of the stock
market's plunge this spring.

Stocks fell further after a
twice-monthly survey from the University of Michigan and Reuters found
that consumers' gloom is increasing. An index of consumer sentiment
compiled from the survey fell to 66.5 in early July from 76. That was a
bigger drop than expected.

kajaria Ceramics - Research Report

Kajaria Ceramics Q1FY11 results were better than our estimates with 25% revenue growth and PAT growth of 87%
YoY...

To read full research report you can bookmark this URL:

http://www.dsij.in/productattachment/BrokerRecommendation/KajariaCer.pdf

Source: Dalal Street Investment Journal

www.dsij.in

Stocks are mixed after weaker Fed economic outlook

A weaker economic forecast from the Federal Reserve chilled the
stock market's winning streak.

Stocks closed mixed Wednesday, with
the Dow Jones industrial average rising almost 4 points for its seventh
straight advance. The other major market indexes also had single-digit
moves. Bond prices rose as investors, again uneasy about the strength of
the economic recovery, went in search of safe investments.

The Dow rose 3.70, or 0.04 percent, to 10,366.72. The Standard &
Poor's 500 index fell 0.17, or 0.02 percent, to 1,095.17, while the
Nasdaq composite index rose 7.81, or 0.4 percent, to 2,249.84.

Losing
stocks were ahead of gainers by 4 to 3 on the New York Stock Exchange.
Volume came to 1.06 billion shares.

Bond prices rose, pushing
interest rates lower in the Treasury market. Investors were following
their pattern of turning to government debt as a safe place to put their
cash when the economy looks troubled.

L&T bags contract from ONGC

L&T has bagged an important offshore rig refurbishment contract from
